WARRENDALE, Pa., March 20, 2007 - Dr. Margaret Wooldridge of the University of Michigan has been selected to receive SAE International's J. Cordell Award for Women Leaders. She will be presented the award during the SAE 2007 World Congress in Detroit, April 16-19.
This award, established in 1999, recognizes a woman who has significantly contributed to the mobility engineering industry through her service, leadership, innovation, technical skills and involvement in SAE International. This award is funded by the SAE Foundation. In addition to supporting the awards, recognition and scholarship programs of SAE International, the SAE Foundation develops and funds programs and incentives that foster student interest in engineering, scientific and technical education. Wooldridge is an associate professor in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan, where she has appointments in the departments of mechanical and aerospace engineering. She has been a teacher for more than 10 years. Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Wooldridge taught at Texas A&M University.
Wooldridge has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters. Her contributions as a researcher, engineer and teacher have been nationally recognized. These honors include the prestigious National Science Foundation Career Award, the Pi Tau Sigma Gold Medal Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Ralph R. Teetor Educator Award from SAE International, and the College of Engineering Education Excellence Award from the University of Michigan.
An active member of SAE International, Wooldridge is also a member of ASME and the International Combustion Institute. She is an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power and serves on the board of the Central States Section of the International Combustion Institute.
Wooldridge received her bachelor's in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana and her master's and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. She resides in Saline, Mich.
